BENEFITING: PUBLIC ALLIES INC
We all have seen headlines and news reports about what happens to communities when young adults, ages 16-24, are out of school or out of work and civically disengaged. They are called "Opportunity Youth" because they want opportunities and because of the opportunity they represent for our country. There are currently 6.7 million of them. We lose a huge amount of talent, creativity and leadership potential if pathways for meaningul education and careers are not created for them We all lose if we do nothing. The cost is enormous. Experts say that in 2011 alone, taxpayers shouldered $93 billion dollars for lost wages, tax revenues, and cost of subsidies and services.
Public Allies plays a vital role in developing their leadership potential and creating pathways for their academic achievement and economic independence. Over 20 years, we have developed almost 5,000 diverse leaders. Sixty-eight percent (68%) are people of color and more than 85% have continued careers in the nonprofit and public sectors, working for social change. Their level of volunteerism and civic participation exceeds that of their age cohorts.
Help me raise funds to increase the number of future leaders and community builders to participate in our program. Thanks.
