EVENT: Pittsburgh Marathon 2016
EVENT DATE: May 01, 2016
In May 2016, I will be embarking on my third marathon - my first one in Pittsburgh! This year, I have decided to run in honor of my biggest motivator and one of my best supporters: Lauren Moran, my best friend, who was diagnosed with Crohn's at just 19 years old, but who has never let her diagnosis stop her from achieving increadible personal and athletic heights.
I met Lauren almost 2 1/2 years ago and in those short years, I have watched her go through two major surgeries, each leaving her in a hospital bed for over a month followed by a few more months of recovery. The pain and months of recovery, however, never stopped her. Just 8 months after that first major surgery, Lauren ran the Pittsburgh Great Race, her first competitive race. Four months after her second major surgery, she ran the longest leg of the Pittsburgh Marathon Realy. In just 7 months after her second surgery, Lauren competed in and completed her first sprint triathlon in North Park. I remember standing around her friends and family, watching in awe of her strength and ability to come back from such a painful and life-altering experience. After completing her second sprint triathlon in Morane State Park, Lauren has now decided to go one step further and is currently training for her first Olympic Triathlon, in May 2016!!
I am running my marathon in honor of Lauren because she inspires me every day. I have had the priveledge of being able to run by her side as she started this journey, and she taught me more than she will ever know. She has stood by me at each race, at every marathon, no matter how far we had to travel, and has given me words of encouragement every step of the way. Running for CCFA gives me another chance to give back to Lauren and back to an organization that she holds so dear to her heart. Please join me in supporting Lauren by making a donation to the Crohn's and Colities Foundation of America - and then look for her at the race and she runs another leg of the Pittsburgh Marathon Relay!
The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to finding cures for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Over 1.4 million Americans are directly impacted by these debilitating diseases. CCFA exists to fund cutting edge research, provide support services and to overall improve the quality of life of those living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
The dollars you raise as a CCFA Team Challenge participant through the Pittsburgh Marathon go directly to the local chapter and help CCFA with its mission. We encourage you to learn more, fundraise and join us!
