Hello! My name is m. Blue Sidebottom and I’m planning a cross-country trail ride by horse from my farm in southeastern Missouri to my ancestors’ 1844 final destination in Silverton, Oregon. The first year I will ride across Missouri. Subsequent years will pick up where the previous year leaves off until we've covered the entire Oregon Trail.
I’m undertaking this grand adventure in order to raise awareness and funds for three charities that offer support and therapies to soldiers suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It has recently been reported that 22 service members per day take their own lives. That’s roughly one per hour. That's entirely too many.
You see, I’m a former military wife and I come from a family with a rich history of military service. I’ve seen the effects of PTSD personally and know of the power of therapies outside of just medical intervention. Every cent of the money I raise will be donated to these three charities that minister to those who have served: Focus Marines Foundation, Six String Heroes, and The Battle Buddy Foundation. I’m funding my trip out of my own pocket. All donated money will pass directly to these charities.
I chose the route along the Oregon Trail because that is the route my ancestors took when they left Missouri in 1844. Travelling this route by horseback while raising awareness and funds for veterans suffering from PTSD is a great way for me to honor the sacrifices of my ancestors as well as our veterans.
