The Loneliest Ride in America!

Jason Susslin crossed Nevada on his mountain bike in 2008. He rode as a grassroots effort to raise money for Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong Foundation. It took him 12 days and pedaled 470 miles.
This year will see another attempt at XNVMTB, this time with more riders and more causes. Starting again in Genoa, NV, on Sept. 6, 2010 riders will attempt an average of 50 miles per day crossing 12 mountain ranges and climbing 27,500’ feet in elevation in 10 days. With minimal support, these riders will be traversing some of Nevada’s most rugged and isolated landscapes. Susslin stresses that this (route) is not along Hwy 50 and the “Loneliest Road in America”. This route is much lonelier, more isolated and more scenic as it travels over a 10,000’ pass, through 1 state park and skirts by five remote wilderness areas. Mountain bikes were built for this kind or riding and Nevada offers some of the finest mountain terrain, weather conditions and trail systems anywhere in the U.S.
As before, Jason Susslin will be riding for the Livestrong Foundation in memory of his brother and in support of cancer research. Team WOW, made up of 5 adventure enthusiasts from Nevada and California, will be pedaling for education in America and hopes Nevada schools will be on the forefront of those receiving donations. 100% of each donation will go to the school of the donor’s choice, so everyone can be involved knowing they are supporting their community. Team WOW Leader, Todd Whear from Gardnerville(where the ride begins) feels tha "XNVMTB could be an excellent opportunity to introduce the “real” Nevada to students and educate all of us about the vast public resource the state has to offer." There are plans to document the trip with daily updates, video, photos and blogs during the ride in so that schools around the state can track Team WOW's progress and learn more about Nevada history, geography, wildlife and archeology. Other riders will also be riding for a cause also and all are currently seeking sponsors and donations. To sponsor riders, donate or find out more about XNVMTB 2010; visit
