BENEFITING: Crowns of Glory INTL Ministries
EVENT DATE: Jul 11, 2017
This program aims to expose low-income, “at-promise” youth to opportunities abroad — for studying, living and working. European countries, such as Germany, France, and Denmark, offer free college tuition to all students, both domestic and international.
With proposed budget cuts to education within the United States, it will become harder for students to fund their education. The goal of this program is to take middle-school and high-school age students on college tours, expose them to different learning opportunities and cultures, while providing with various options to choose from.
For middle schoolers (sixth - eighth grade), the program will be a week-long excursion, likely to Canada or universities across the US.
For high-schoolers, the program will be during the summer, two to three weeks during the summer. They will have the opportunity to visit international universities, and look into options for living and working abroad. There are multiple opportunities for students graduating from high school, wanting to take a gap year.
Upon completion of the program, we will continue to help students with college preparation, including securing funding or financial aid and the application process. For any funds secured, we will match the funding for any expenses, including books/supplies, living, etc.
Its time that we start seeding into our younger generations, but it starts with us! Check out the wisdom of our very own Kayla Jasmin, one of our volunteers, who helped innovate this initiative, based on her own experience abroad! In fact, it has inspired her to pursue her Juris Doctor Degree from Queens University, in Northern Ireland. She is the brains and beauty, behind this program!
"When it comes to travel, I am a novice. But, I know this for certain: I LOVE Travel! My first experience with travel started the summer after my ninth grade year, and I haven’t looked back since. There is always a story behind each place I visit. I love the journey; it's about traveling to new places and seeing new things. And, for me, that means engaging with the local communities in the country or destination. After a study abroad trip to Italy, I realized how much travel means to me. I encountered obstacles that put travel into perspective for me. It's not all glitz and glam; sometimes, it's up to YOU to make the most out of your experience and learn from it." - Kayla Jasmin
