BENEFITING: SACRED VALLEY PROJECT INC
Last February, I went on a service trip to Peru with my school. One of the project we did was helping for girls at Sacred Valley Project have a better living conditions when they come back from break. I applied the new Adobe to the wall with my friends and helped the gardening. The students in SVP are girls who didn’t have the opportunity to get secondary education. Most of them live on the mountain or the village between. They don’t have secondary school up there.Families may pay for a room in town for a son to continue his studies, but this is uncommon for daughters. SVP provide free boarding and supplementary education for young women who are from low income families in the area called Andes. On the last day of our service, we met girls in SVP. We introduced ourself and heard their story. They are from a place that’s in extreme poverty and lacks of public education. After primary education, girls will stay home doing housework and take care of their younger siblings. Bad living situation didn’t stop them from studying. When the these girls got the this opportunity to study here, they walk 3-6 hours everyday to get to school. After having dormitory, they take extra classes in the afternoon to catch up with students who went to school regularly. They also engage in activities designed to give them a skill to enable them to break out of the cycle of poverty in which they live. I want to make a difference for them by engaging in service and giving up my 16th birthday. Hope you can give whatever you can, I would really appreciate that. Lots of love, and thank you.
