Crystal is supposed to be studying abroad in Japan this Fall. Through savings and student loans she has enough money to cover her tuition and her flight, but falls just short of having the ability to cover room and board (living expenses). This is her Senior year and for lack of just $2,500, it is all in jeopardy. Her family situation is dire. I will explain the family situation at the end.

Crystal is an exceptional student (and human being) who has worked during her Summers and throughout the school years to earn what she could to make her college education possible. She was recognized early on for her high intelligence and was placed in the Magnate School program by age 7. During High School, she discovered her love of languages and spent a full month away from home studying Japanese at a private college over Summer break. Before graduating with Honors and received the Senior Award in French , she had already earned 8 college credits and had been teaching herself both Chinese and Japanese on her own time.

During Crystal's first two years of college she has maintained a (3.8) GPA, while competing on the College's Academic Team, was the Vice President in the German Club and working in the school cafeteria.
Here is an example of the class curricular for one of those semesters.
1) Chinese 2) Japanese 3) French 4) Advanced Kanji (a writing system of the Japanese language)
5) Political Science 6) Cultural Anthropology

She spent her 3rd year studying abroad in both Martinique (living at the college dorm) and in Senegal, Africa (living with a Host Family) where she also learned the local language called "Wolof". This girl has been well educated, gained great cultural experiences and is now supposed to be starting her Senior year by studying in Hirakata, Japan.

Crystal has her student loans approved, the tuition is already covered, she has spent the earnings from her Summer job and already paid for her flight, all that is left is to raise the money for her books, food and day to day expenses.

Now, the family circumstances which are preventing of from putting together the last $2,500 needed to get Crystal to Japan for the Fall semester of her senior year of college. Crystal's mother was just recently diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer, her father is disabled and existing on only $721 a month from SSI Disability, with her mother's upcoming surgery and loss of work, the family just can not cover the last $2,500 she needs to be able to survive at College this fall. So we are here, pleading for our daughter.

Crystal has worked and studied and succeeded at all that has been put before her. She is so close to completing college and so much has already been invested into this girl's education, training and future by both her and those who love her so dearly. We are here making it publicly known that our health issues have devastated us and we have reached the point where we just can't make that last $2,500 appear and give her this opportunity on our own.

We do not ask for us. We plead for the sake of our child so that she can finish her studies and graduate with the degree (and the skills) she has worked so hard for. The mortality rate for her mother's Esophageal Cancer is not very good. Her father is not expected to ever recover enough to get off of disability. Crystal needs this degree as she will (too soon) be forced to rely on herself for survival.

Falling short of being able to do what you need to prepare your child for life without you is every parents nightmare. I can't accurately describe the emotions we are going through. Pride be damned, we are asking you for help.
