THE STORY:

The dawn of the Monday in 4 weeks will be a special one. I will be putting my toes on the start line of the 121st Boston Marathon, the most prestigious marathon race of the world. It might well be snowing or above 80 degrees - this is New England for you after all - but the only thing that will matter to me: match my physical strength with my mental power to push through the tough moments of the magnificent day.

Beyond testing my own self, this race is about purpose. Dedication to a greater mandate that has a special meaning to me. Before first hand seeing it, never have I imagined how early children enjoy and develop desire to be part of some sort of physical activity. When a simmering summer morning, my than 4 and 6 years old ran and finished the Battle of Bunker Hill 5K road race with me, I thought: all children (and parents) deserve exposure and chance - the learning and benefit is guaranteed.

This year, I am running the Boston Marathon to raise money for Town Track Club, a charity active in my community with the mission to encourage and enhance running at all levels. It instils running as a lifelong pursuit for all ages. Its youth program establishes and nurtures increasing athletics skills and conditioning, brings children to local meets, regional competitions and the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics. The funds I am raising support access to these races - travel, registration, gears - and enable certain children programs to be offered free of charge.

The image of my children battling those hills by putting one little step after another still gives me the strongest wings when the long miles start biting me: "They were able to do it - so can I". In 4 weeks, I will be ready to take on the 26.2 miles. I will have all the training done in my legs and mind. I will have the children of Town Track Club in my heart. And that is all I need to be certain of: I will cross the finish line on Boylston.

I thank you for supporting me all along, helping me raise the funds, and giving the youth the chance they need.
