Kittens and Cocktails

THE STORY:

On Friday, June 19th, 2015, Cat Town will be hosting Kittens & Cocktails at Apparel Arts (1616 Franklin in Downtown Oakland) to celebrate the closing of the Saving Pets Challenge, and continue fundraising for our new Cat Zone expansion at the Cat Town Cafe & Adoption Center. There will be kittens, cocktails, yummy hors d’oeurves, and cat-centric activites throught the event. We'll also be having a raffle and silent auction, where you'll be able to win a "Port Of Cat Town" cat bed or a Cat Zone Campout!

Tickets for the event are a $50 donation per person. Please enter your name (and the name of any guests) in the comments, and we’ll see you in June!

CAT TOWN wrote -

What happens to at-risk shelter cats who are passed over due to shyness, injury, illness, old age, or under-socialization? Sadly, many are euthanized. Others spend months and even years in shelters. But some of these vulnerable cats go to Cat Town!

Our mission

Founded in 2011, Cat Town finds great homes for cats from municipal shelters in Oakland and the Bay Area who are at risk for euthanasia and most in need of intervention. We provide a cage-free environment where cats can thrive while we match them with adopters and a permanent home.

The Cat Town foster program remains key to saving many of our most vulnerable cats. We typically have around 50 cats in foster homes.

In October 2014, we opened Cat Town Cafe, a cage-free adoption center and the first cat cafe in the United States.  Since then, the number of cats adopted from Cat Town has more than doubled. We’ve created a replicable model for saving shelter cats in huge numbers.

Cat Town has already helped reduce the euthanasia rate at Oakland Animal Services by more than 50%.

The Saving Pets Challenge

Cat Town is participating in the Saving Pets Challenge, a nationwide fundraising campaign from May 4 to June 5. The organization that raises the most money will be awarded an extra $50,000. This would be a game changer for Cat Town, but the only way we could ever get there is with your help!

Expanding our adoption center

We now have a unique opportunity to expand our adoption center to the space next door to the Cafe. This will create a calm, quiet place for more sensitive cats. We also want to build an adoption area just for kittens. With its proximity to the existing Cafe, this new space will allow us to efficiently and sustainably scale our efforts and help even more vulnerable cats in Oakland and the Bay Area.

The cost of caring for vulnerable cats

The significant increase in the number of cats Cat Town helps means that our expenses have increased dramatically. For each non-senior cat we rescue, our support costs average $285.

Senior cats often arrive at municipal shelters with untreated medical conditions. To support adopters of older cats, Cat Town covers medical expenses for the life of cats age 10 and older. Caring for a senior cat can easily cost $1,000 or more.

Since Cat Town is the only resource to the Oakland shelter for cats that are injured, we also need an emergency medical fund to cover unexpected costs.

No donation is too small!

Your support will help us fund medical care, food, transportation, toys, beds, dishes, scratchers, microchips, flea medication, and litter.

Thank you for your support!
