We are getting it done!!
October 24, 2017
“I run for Amy…” and boy, does she ever. Karin Keith is my dear friend and neighbor, and the shirt she wears in support of Amy Nessel she still wears today, in honor of Amy’s too-short life.
Amy lost her life to cancer on May 26, 2015 and left behind a beautiful boy, the tragedy made even more horrific in Sawyer’s loss of his devoted mom.
I didn’t know Amy well. I’d met her several times over the years, and knew her parents, and yet she touched my life in ways that are significant. I learned about courage, strength, dignity and perseverance while listening to Karin on our morning runs. We trained for a marathon together in 2011, and over those next few years, Karin told me Amy’s story as she and countless others walked Amy to her treatments, held her hand and remained loyal steadfast friends throughout her harrowing cancer journey.
Amy played tennis, biked the CTChallenge and Amy took that cancer diagnosis and slammed it hard with a tennis racquet and never once allowed herself the self pity so many would have fallen prey to in light of the life she was handed. Rather, she was tough as nails and inspired everyone around her — even me, her best friend’s neighbor, to be grateful.
Am i running for Amy? I suppose so. Amy would want me to run! I’m sure she’d encourage every cancer patient and every survivor, and every person she met to run, to live, to grab every moment and LIVE. I am running because i CAN run, and i am thankful for that. And if my run can help others, well then, I get to make a dream of my own come true while hopefully someone else benefits in some way.
The Mission and CT Challenge are possible through donations from all of you. Empowering cancer patients, survivors and their families empowers us all. We are all connected, we are all survivors, we are all inspired by the heroic character of Amy and of countless others who, whether still with us or not, continue to teach the lesson of being grateful for and embracing LIFE.
Won’t you help me crush my goal of 2500.00? Thank You!
