BENEFITING: COMMUNITY TECHNOLOGY NETWORK OF THE BAY AREA
EVENT DATE: Oct 25, 2010
I've taken on an exciting new project and I need some help.
For the past 2 years, I've been teaching computer classes to beginning computer users in the Tenderloin through the Community Technology Network (CTN). The people who come to my classes have really simple needs- jobs and housing. But without some basic computer literacy and access to the internet, these are really daunting challenges. It's hard to imagine looking for an apartment without craigslist. And you can't even get a job cleaning hotel rooms at most hotels in San Francisco without applying through a corporate website.I can't overstate the importance of internet to people who are struggling to escape poverty.
CTN creates opportunities for people to learn 21st-century skills by building the capacity of computer centers in under-served communities. CTN provides staff training, resources, skilled volunteers and networking opportunities in order to help our partner organizations create vibrant, successful technology programs.
I am a huge fan of this organization and I have volunteered to organize a major event for CTN this Fall. The event will feature a panel discussion with some of the most significant people behind the effort to close the digital divide in the Bay Area and some friends from the Tech community. The event is scheduled for the evening of Monday, October 25th.
The CTN is a young non-profit and I need some help to make this happen event.
I am looking for:
A corporate sponsor
A space for the event
Food and drink for the night of the event
Help marketing the event
Help Selling tickets
Your attendance on 10/25 (mark your calendars!)
And anything else you'd be willing to do to help (including just forwarding this email)
This is a daunting challenge, but I know that with the help of my amazing friends it will also be a huge success.
Thank you in advance for all your help!
