BENEFITING: RUN FOR THE FALLEN MAINE
EVENT DATE: Oct 27, 2013
Hello, my name is Cristin Turner. I am 25 years old and from Falmouth, ME. I have been running for the past 9 years, started one day and never stopped. Fall 2012 I completed my first marathon in the Maine Marathon. In the Spring of 2010 I was told I would never physically be able to run a marathon due to an artery issue in my left leg. With my love for running and determination, I cross trained and completed my first marathon (injury free).
This year I want to make running a marathon not about myself, but instead contribute to a very worthy cause. Many family members and friends in my life have served, and I feel very grateful to all the heroes who serve/have served our country. I will be running for one who has given his life in order to keep our country safe post 9/11.
I will be fundraising/honoring LCpl Joshua M. Bernard of New Portland. Joshua was home schooled in New Portland before enlisting in the Marine Corps in November 2006. Bernard was an active member of the youth group in his church, Crossroads Bible Church in Madison. Bernard was assigned to his unit in May 2007 and deployed to Iraq in 2008. He earned a number of distinctions during his time as a Marine, including the Purple Heart and the National Defense Service, Afghanistan Campaign, Iraq Campaign, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medals. He also earned a Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
Help me in my journey to the Marine Corps Marathon (October 27, 2013) for all the Sacrifices both Joshua and his family; John (father), Sharon (mother), and Katy (sister) have given in serving our country.
Any contribution would be much appreciated.
