#CTtoCambodia - Michelle and Red's Medical Mission Trip!
Organized by: Michelle Aquino
Help us get to $8K!
June 10, 2016
EVENT DATE Jun 23, 2016
At the end of June, Michelle, as a non-medical staff volunteer, and Red, as a medical staff volunteer, will be working alongside other qualified volunteers and medical professionals to provide health care in some of the most impoverished regions of Cambodia. But why Cambodia? The United Nations Millennium Project proclaimed that only 13% of the country visited health facilities last year, and 22.9% of children die before the age of 5. Treatable diseases like malaria, intestinal parasites, cholera, diarrhea, and tuberculosis as well as vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles are endemic and claim lives everyday.
So this is where the IMR team comes in. Every day for a week, the team will travel to the clinic location by bus or boat and set up a mobile clinic. The team will see a few hundred patients each day, treating patients with both medications and community health education. The majority of the cases we will witness are treatable and we will bring the necessary medicines and supplies to these communities. While one week is too little time to treat all the sick, we are confident that we will be able to help the local communities that we do visit.
It would mean the world to us for your generous support. Every dollar matters and no gift is too small. The more money raised, the more supplies we can provide. As a token of our appreciation, any one who gives a gift of $50 or more will receive a small present from Cambodia!
