EVENT DATE: Jul 31, 2016
There aren't many circumstances in which facing your greatest fear directly results in much needed funding for your favorite cause. And as a passionate, sustainable agriculture advocate with an ambitious bucket list, I found this too productive an opportunity to sit out!
I will be running the San Francisco half marathon on behalf of the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture (CUESA) to benefit youth food systems education.
Youth, particularly in under-served communities, are relentlessly targeted by food corporations advocating poor eating habits that translate into a lifetime of nutrition-related diseases. Making food education accessible an early age instills a sense of agency over their consumption choices. Your donation to this campaign will increase the number of public school youth served by CUESA's Foodwise Kids program, a hands-on cooking program for San Francisco public school youth.
Running becomes less ominous and more exciting when backed by the people I love (you!). I've pledged to raise $800 for CUESA, so any amount you can contribute to reaching that goal is so very appreciated. Thank you for donating in support of food empowerment!
