BENEFITING: Cure JM Foundation
Three kids out of a million have Juvenile Myositis, so it is a very rare orphan disease. Diagnosis is very hard as many doctors have never heard of it. At this time, there is no cure. It is painful as it attacks the muscles, skin, and organs.
In the fall of 2013, I was matched with 9 year old Connor Smith through the I Run For organization. This nonprofit pairs up children with special needs with runners who dedicate their runs and races to their matches. Connor was diagnosed in January 2010 after he had a severely adverse reaction to an H1N1 Flu Shot, which turned out to be a trigger for his disease. Triggers can also be the sun, other vaccines, antibiotics, and stress. The hope right now for many patients, including Connor, is remission. Sadly this disease can be fatal. The only way currently to fight back is early diagnosis and aggressive treatments in the form of steroid infusions and chemotherapy.
Help me help Connor and other children with this disease find a cure!
