THE STORY:

THE CONTEST TO WIN AN EXTRA $10,000 ENDS WEDNESDAY AT NOON!  DONATE TODAY!

As you know, our 11-year-old daughter, Maya, was diagnosed with Juvenile Dermatomyositis almost 14 months ago.  Since her diagnosis, she has endured surgery, an MRI, monthly blood work, monthly IVIG treatments, and 60 weekly chemo shots.  She has also suffered through a couple of painful flares, takes her daily medication without much complaining, and has had to endure many side effects of her medication, including feeling nauseous for several days every week after her chemo shot.  Looking at her, you would never know that she has a life-threatening disease.

In the midst of this trial, we feel extremely blessed.  God has provided us with many amazing people in our lives because of this.  Maya's Physical Therapist has been a rock for us.  Any time that Maya feels like she is struggling physically, we call Kathy and she helps us out.  Maya's Rheumatologist, Dr. Carrasco, has been incredible.  He is very honest with us as well as Maya, and always takes his time with us.  Our families have all been incredibly supportive.  Recently, we were connected with a program called Team Impact.  Maya was partnered with the University of the Incarnate Word Women's Basketball Team.  I can not tell you how amazing this program has been for her.  It has increased her confidence and self esteem, and gives her something to focus on besides her JM.

Although this disease is known to weaken one's muscles, it has actually made Maya stronger.  She became connected with a club basketball team earlier this year and her basketball skills have developed greatly.  She has a fantastic work ethic and is athletically gifted in both basketball and volleyball.

Although this is nothing we would have ever, ever asked for, we do count our blessings every day.  I initially was not going to create a Cure JM Crowdrise fundraising page this year.  However, I realize that there are so many kids out there that are struggling every day, and I know that at any given time, Maya might develop a flare that would set her back physically (and emotionally).  There is no better way to praise God for the blessings we have received than to continue to support the Cure JM community financially.  As long as kids are suffering from JM, we will work for a cure.

If you find it in your heart to donate, please be advised that you can avoid the extra processing fee at the end by clicking on the link.

Thank you-

Join the movement.  Help Cure JM win $10,000 for Juvenile Myositis research.

Cure JM is competing with hundreds of other charities to win an additional $10,000 for research.  Can we count on your support?

How does it work?  The contest runs from November 25 through December 3rd.  The charity with the most donations during this time will also receive an additional $10,000 cash prize.  It is that easy!

How can I help?  To help, click the donate button to give to Cure JM.  Your generosity will help fund life-changing advancements and help Cure JM win an additional $10,000 for research.

Why give to Cure JM?

Cure JM is the ONLY organization that solely supports Juvenile Myositis and is the largest charitable supporter of JM research.  Over 90% of all gifts goes directly to fund life-changing research.

Juvenile Myositis is a life-threatening disease affecting 2-4 children per million in the U.S. alone.  Juvenile Myositis (JM) causes the body's own immune system to attack healthy cells and tissues, which can cause pain, weakness, inability to walk, disfigurement, and even death. JM can affect virtually any system of the body, the heart, lungs, skin, muscles, and more.

And there is no cure…YET.

But you can help.

Generosity like yours has helped Cure JM Foundation invest more than $8 million into critical research that has helped advance our understanding of the causes and most effective treatments for Juvenile Myositis.

Our goal is to never, ever let another child suffer from Juvenile Myositis.  And with your help, this goal is well within our reach.
