Brookelyn was diagnosed at the age of 4 with Juvenile Dermatomyositis. She went from being a perfectly healthy and I would say somewhat advanced child to one that sturggled to walk, climb stairs, dress herself, or even get in and out of bed. She was tired all the time, in pain and just feeling lousy and frustrated. She couldn't keep up with her friends and could only play with her brothers when she was laying on the floor. I remember her going to her cousins birthday party at the McDonald's Play Place and she spent the entire 2 hours sitting at the table with her head down watching kids run and play as she should have been doing and so wanted to do. It was heart wrenching. After getting her diagnosis she was admitted to the hospital where she began treatments of chemotherapy (low dose) and steroids (high dose). She ballooned into a girl you would not reocognize as her due to the steroids (even today she will look at old photos and ask who she is!). Thankfully the treatments have been working for her and almost 5 years later she is still going through them but walking is no longer difficult or painful. Our hope is that in about 2 years we will hear the words remission. Our dream is that in her life time a cure will be found. JM has already robbed too many young kids of their lives, leaving a void in their parents hearts that can never be filled. Please take a moment and make a donation in the name of Brookelyn and all her JM family fighting for a cure.

Juvenile Myositis is a life-threatening and incurable disease affecting 17,000 children in the U.S. alone. It causes a child's own immune system to attack healthy tissue and cells, which can cause pain, organ failure and even lead to death. Juvenile Myositis can affect virtually any system of the body, the heart, lungs, skin, muscles, and more.
Cure JM Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a cure for Juvenile Myositis (JM). Cure JM Foundation is the ONLY organization that solely supports Juvenile Myositis and is the largest charitable supporter of Juvenile Myositis research. With the rarity of this disease, your gift is vital to permitting further studies into finding the cause, best treatments and a possible cure.
