BENEFITING: CAMP TWIN LAKES INC
EVENT DATE: Jan 07, 2017
My name is Curtis Helmer, and I had the privilege of working on staff at Camp Twin Lakes-Rutledge for two summers (2012-13). I don’t think I’ve experienced and witnessed more growth and life-change than I did those two summers at camp. This is a camp designed and built from the ground up to serve kids with serious illnesses, disabilities, and other life challenges. It is a safe place, where kids aren’t defined by their limitations. It is a place of total acceptance. It is a place where silliness is encouraged and where kids can be kids. This all sounds sappy, but I truly mean it. I’ve not found a place quite like camp before. It is deeply important to me. I can’t even begin to tell you how the campers I interacted with changed me. They helped show me what’s important in life, and I will be forever grateful to those people and to that place. Camp Twin Lakes is a non-profit that subsidizes 80% of direct camp costs to help ensure that as many kids can come to camp as possible. Which is why I’d love to raise as much money as I can for this amazing organization. So this year I’ve signed up for The Goofy Marathon Challenge at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. I will be running the half marathon on Saturday, January 7th, and the full marathon the very next day on January 8th. If I can raise at least $1,000.00, I promise to run each race dressed like a different Disney Princess (Anna from Frozen for the half-marathon, and Elsa from Frozen for the full-marathon). At camp, I got to watch countless campers get out of there comfort-zones on a daily basis, so I figure dressing up like a princess for 39 combined miles won’t be too bad. I would really appreciate any support you can give me. And please share this fundraiser with those you know to help me spread the word. I promise your donation will be well spent giving a child one of the greatest gifts you can give them: a summer at Camp Twin Lakes. Thank you.
