BENEFITING: CUTTING FOR A CURE INC
EVENT DATE: Jul 11, 2014
Cutting for a Cure is a “start-up” non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that strives to assist racial and ethnic individuals in underserved communities’ live longer, healthier lives by providing them with healthcare guidance, education and resources. It has been reported nationally, that social determinants of health like poverty, unequal access to healthcare, lack of education, stigma and racism are linked to health disparities. It is our goal to minimize the risks faced by these individuals against preventable diseases.
We are hosting our bi-annual 48-Hour Health Fair and Haircutting Marathon. In the past, the event drew over 3,000 individuals and approximately 800 attendees were screened for prostate and colon cancer, hypertension, diabetes, asthma and HIV/AIDS – to name just a few of the tests that were conducted over the non-stop, two-day event. The Marathon was widely covered by the local press and television media and we received accolades and awards from several elected officials, stakeholders and members of the clergy praising the life-saving, positive impact of the Marathon and the organization.
