Did you know that:

- Half of the world's hospital beds are filled with people suffering from waterbourne illnesses.

-1.8 million people die each year from preventable waterbourne disease. 90% are children under the age of 5.

-An American taking a five-minute shower uses more water than a typical person in a developing country uses in a whole day.

-Every 19 seconds a mother loses one of her children to a water related illness

-Even though about 70 percent of the earth's surface is covered by water, less than 1 percent is available for human use.

-884 million people lack access to safe water supplies; approximately one in eight people

-The water and sanitation crisis claims more lives through disease than any war claims through guns

-443 million school days are lost each year due to water-related diseases

-Nearly 1 out of every 5 deaths under the age of 5 worldwide is due to a waterrelated  disease

I was so surprised the first time I heard these facts! I had never really considered that my easy access to clean water was something I should be gratefeul for and something people around the world lacked. In order to help more people gain the access to clean water that I have enjoyed my entire life, I will be travelling to Ghana this winter break (Dec. 28-Jan. 17) in order to establish a sustainable water treatment business in a rural village. The amazing non-profit that has made all this possible is Community Water Solutions. As a CWS fellow, my job is not only to travel to Ghana for three weeks and implement a sustainable water system but to raise awareness in my community and ask you to partake in this journey with me by contributing whatever possible. Together we can make access to water a universal right, one village at a time. I sincerely thank you for coming to this page and reading about my most recent endeavor and hope you will consider a donation.

Thank you!

"What truly makes the CWS idea new and innovative is that we implement for-profit water businesses that are owned and operated by the communities we serve and use low-cost local technologies. This distinctive combination empowers people in rural areas to take control of their own water quality. As a result CWS is uniquely positioned to provide a sustainable source of safe drinking water in rural areas."
