The Story

EVENT DATE: Jul 26, 2016

On July 26th, my son Matthew Hartley, son-in-law Seth Blanchard, and I will spend three days cycling the 184.5 miles of the C&O Canal which runs from my hometown of Cumberland, MD to Washington DC. We are using this adventure to help promote awareness of the dangers of blood clots and to raise funds for the National Blood Clot Alliance. We are covering all of our expenses so all donations will go directly to the National Blood Clot Alliance and are 100% tax deductible.

Every year in the United States nearly one million people suffer a blood clot and one hundred thousand die from that event. This means one person is dying every six minutes! This past year two of my colleagues from work experienced a life-threatening episode from blood clots. Fortunately both are now recovering. The National Blood Clot Alliance is a patient-focused organization dedicated to advancing the prevention, early diagnosis, and successful treatment of blood clots. I have served as a member of its national board for the past three years. Learn more about blood clots by visiting their website, www.stoptheclot.org, and please consider making a tax deductible donation to support their important mission.

Also encourage us in our three-day ride. Two of us are not serious cyclists so this will be a challenge!
