BENEFITING: VISION OF CHILDREN
EVENT DATE: Mar 10, 2013
Cyndie has been a long-time supporter of The Vision of Children Foundation and has chosen to allow VOC to benefit from her San Diego half marathon in March!
Support Cyndie in her efforts and you support all of the children VOC is trying to help!
Cyndie's Words: My daughter, Riley, was born with ocular albinism. She wasn’t diagnosed with her condition until she was about 3 months old. I went to one pediatric ophthalmologist who basically told me my daughter would be blind. I got a second opinion from a pediatric ophthalmologist at Sharp-Children’s. He was very good and put us in touch with a Visual Itinerant through San Diego Schools Special Education department. Judy Norton was Riley’s helper while she was a baby. She put me in touch with Dr. Granet at UCSD who told me about the Vision of Children Foundation. It was a relief to find an organization and families who had children with the same condition as Riley.
Even with Riley’s condition, it has never slowed her down. She has always been an outgoing, active, and bright child. She is now 13, enjoys doing modern dance and spending time with her friends.
My family has been a supporter of the Vision of Children with donations over the years. It is so nice to know this organization exists and helps other families come to terms and accept what visual impairments their children may have knowing they are not alone and that there is research being done to help eradicate these conditions.
I happily support the Vision of Children by running my 4th ½ marathon!
