BENEFITING: LIMBS FOR LIFE FOUNDATION
My mother, Dee, started her prosthetic business in 2002. She passed away from ovarian cancer in 2015. Her legacy lives on thru my brothers & I at Texas Quality Prosthetics, Inc. The passion she felt towards getting her patients back to walking was known by many. Being around amputees inspired me to start running again. A few years ago, I set out to run my dream race, the Boston Marathon. On April 15, 2013, i toed the starting line along with 15,000 other runners. The feeling of vindication & crossing that iconic finish line was only a few hours away. After only 10 miles into the race, I knew I was going to be in trouble. My stomach started to act up and cramp. I couldn't hold anything in. My only solution was prayer to get my mind off my stomach pain and passed the miles ahead. After crossing the finish, I gave God all the glory, but my victory was quickly turned into fear and anger. Our finish line and all of the spectators close by became victims of a cowardly act. My husband and I managed to escape the horrible ordeal only 20 minutes before. I've often asked myself why we were spared. Many lost their limbs and that hit close to home. I knew first hand the tough road to recovery that lay ahead of them, but I also knew that the human spirit is much stronger. I chose to help the Limbs For Life Foundation for many reasons, mainly because I believe every one who's found themselves in a situation where they have lost a limb either to disease, accident, or warfare deserves a chance at a normal life again. Please help me make a difference in someone's life. My two feet will help get someone back on theirs.
