Dear Family and Friends,
As most of you know, our son Wyatt was diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome in the spring of 2011. Fragile X Syndrome is a genetic disorder that causes cognitive and developmental delays in addition to severe learning, communication and anxiety issues. There is no cure. The Fragile X community is widespread and researchers and doctors are doing all they can to develop medications and treatments for those affected by Fragile X.
July is Fragile X awareness month. As we've learned and grown in our knowledge about this genetic disorder, we've found that most people have never even heard of this condition which affects 1 in 3,800 males and approximately 1 in 5,000 females. Through educating ourselves and our immediate family on Fragile X and how it affects Wyatt, we realize how important it is for overall awareness. This month we'll be participating in the Let 'Em Know 5K run/walk. Please join us by contributing to our crowdrise fundraising page and by running or walking your own 5K! (and tell your friends! The more money and awareness we can raise, the better!!)
What is Let ‘Em Know?
It's a virtual run/walk to help raise awareness and funds for Fragile X from anywhere in the world! Ask anyone who’s participated: This is one of the easiest ways to raise awareness for Fragile X, so why not give it a shot?
It isn’t about how fast or slow you are. It’s about what you can do to raise awareness and “Let ’Em Know!”
What does “virtual run/walk” mean?
It means you can complete it anywhere and at anytime during the month of July, which is Fragile X Awareness Month. You can run or walk the 3.1 miles (5k) all at once or over the course of a week or the entire month.
It’s on the honor system—you do not have to report or verify your miles! But we’d love to hear about your run/walk through social media.
Complete your run or walk by July 31, 2014.
Please check with your doctor regarding your ability to physically participate if you have not regularly exercised in the last 12 months prior to the NFXF Let ‘Em Know 5K. Your doctor will probably suggest there is no time like the present to start getting active! Also, your donations benefiting the NFXF on the Crowdrise website are tax-deductible!
