Thank you to all who have supported our Norman! We still have a way to go to cover his medical bills so please share! THANK YOU!  See more

THE STORY:

Norman has had a bit of a rough start in life, he found himself landing a spot at Chicago Animal Care & Control and while he was there he had tummy issues and the folks there thought it was just because of the stress of being at the shelter. Norman's stomach issues never really got better after we came along and got him out of Chicago Animal Care & Control.  Dogs Are Deserving Rescue took Norman to be seen by the awesome people at Markham Animal Clinic and put Norman on a special diet.  Norman would improve a little for just a bit and then things would get worse, Norman was being seen by Dr. Brandy pretty regularly to figure out what could possibly be going on with the boy.  Come to find out after lots of special food, medical testing, and x-rays poor Norman has been dealing with the parasite Giardia Trophozoite.  An infestation of these single-celled parasites will live in the dog’s intestine is usually asymptomatic but after having giardiasis for a long time can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and weight loss leading to overall poor condition; and even death.

Norman had unfortunately been dealing with Giardia for quite some time and had also been continually reinfecting himself as Giardia lives in the intestine of its host it also exists the host through the feces and can live in the stool and on the ground or surface the stool sets upon allowing for reinfestations to occur. Poor Norman and his foster mommy have had to treat the home and the backyard that Norman is in to kill this nasty Giardia Trophozoite, Norman has also been put on a rather expensive antibiotic that the average cost per dose is $0.25 - $0.50 and Norman needs over 60 doses to help clear him of his Giardia.

Currently the medical bills for Norman and the cost of the food for his special diet have surpassed $2000 and we are seeking donations to aid in overall care that has been given to Norman so that he can be healthy again as we all know in spite of all that he has going on he is still a happy pup with so much life and love to give.

Please donate any amount, no amount to small to help us save so many more just like Norman.  Thank you for your continued support.

Information from petsandparasites.org on Giardia

Giardia is passed in the feces of animals in the form of a cyst that is resistant to many environmental extremes. These cysts are scattered through the environment in feces or fecal-contaminated water. These cysts are infectious when passed, and upon ingestion by the next host, the encysted trophozoites emerge from the cysts in the intestinal tract. Within the intestine, the trophozoites feed and multiply. Some trophozoites will then form a cyst wall around themselves, and those cysts will be passed in the feces to continue the cycle.
