October 23, 2016
BENEFITING: AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION OF THE NORTHEAST
EVENT DATE: Oct 22, 2016
I will keep running for my Dad to keep his memory alive and as fresh in my mind as he will always be in my heart.
This is our "give-back" and with your support for my next race...the Spartan Super 10/22, we will suprass $10,000 in donations since 2014!!
"DAD'S FRESH AIR FUND 2016" celebrates our Dad/Grandpa (Pat Grace Sr.)'s life and willingness to ALWAYS give back to others, combined with his love of the great outdoors!! The FUND is just beginning its 3rd year and with YOUR help we will hit the $10,000 mark in 2016!!!
On June 12th, my son Daniel and I will run the Spartan again with our team "Mud, Sweat and Beers" to raise more $$$ for the American Lung Association, this time focusing on the NE Chapter, in Dad's name! While most of the $ raised has gone to American Lung, this fund has also supported the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation and United Hospice of Rockland!
His tremendous heart was matched by his genuine spirit...
Our Dad/Grandpa enjoyed a very active lifestyle right through his senior years... He died less than 3 weeks before his 77th Birthday in December`13 from pulmonary fibrosis, a horrific disease that attacks the lungs making it increasingly difficult to breathe. Supporting American Lung means in part funding the effort to stop this deadly disease so that others can hopefully continue to enjoy long, happy and active lifestyles with their families. By running for Dad we remember his life and his love of the great outdoors, raising money for charity through participation in outdoor events. Dad loved golf and tennis, hiking and camping, swimming and skiing...pretty much anything you could do outside. He worked outdoors most of his life as an iron worker and rigger for Local 40 and donated many years working with hundreds of kids as a troop leader and Scoutmaster. He was also a singer and entertainer who with our Mom, created a cabaret group that continues to stage shows at nursing homes throughout the Poconos!
My sister, brother and I learned by example...that every day is a gift; that we should make the best of each day...not just for ourselves but for those around us that we can affect in a positive way; which is why this run has the charity tied to it...to make something more of it than physical exertion; to bring something greater to the race than competitive spirit...to make the event...SPECIAL. It's the way Dad looked at things, so this is our give-back in his memory!
Since June 2014...with YOUR help we've raised almost $8,000.00!!!!!...an unbelievable outpouring of love and support. PLEASE consider contributing again this year to our "Dad's Fresh Air Fund," 100% of which will benefit the American Lung Association. Any contribution $10 (minimum for site) and up will help this very worthy and reputable charity (American Lung) learn more about diseases like the one that killed our Dad. If you would prefer to write a check for any amount, please email me.
If the timing isn't good...no worries...I will run again. I will keep running for my Dad to keep his memory alive and as fresh in my mind as he will always be in my heart. Please just say a prayer; keep Dad in your thoughts!
There are so many worthy causes out there. THANK YOU for considering this one!
With much love and friendship...
Patrick Grace Jr.
