BENEFITING: HILLEL THE FOUNDATION FOR JEWISH CAMPUS LIFE
With anti-Israel activities on the rise on campuses in North America and around the world, there is an immediate need to create a program that will engage a promising cohort of Russian Jewish young adults who are poised to take on leadership roles in the Jewish community. Da Israel initiative provides a high-quality experience of Israel education and cultivates future leaders who will take active roles in furthering connections between their different levels of networks (family, friends, colleagues, social networks, etc.) and Israel.
The Da Israel program brings together talented Russian speaking college students and post-college young adults from the New York metropolitan area. The overarching goal of the program is to cultivate and shape this group of young adults to become connected, supportive and influential leaders for Israel in their university, professional and social network settings. The program is broken up into two sections – an educational section (workshops) and a practical section (group initiatives).
Last year Da Israel participants have been fortunate to expand their knowledge of Russian-Jewish identity and learn about Israel. The participants had a unique opportunity to attend The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Conference, Limmud FSU gathering, AJC’s (American Jewish Committee) ACCESS Summit. Thanks to our new partner in this initiative, Yad Vashem, the participants of Da Israel initiative will be able to travel to Israel and expand their knowledge of the Holocaust as well as see a different side of Israel (Winter 2015.)
- To cultivate and groom Russian speaking Jews to become effective Israel advocates for life in social media and their own networks.
- To strengthen and enhance their knowledge of Israel through group study; interactive sessions in the United States and Israel
- To train and empower the ambassadors to implement Israel related projects that promote a positive image of Israel
Thanks to our sponsors and grants we were able to cover a good portion of this initiative, but we are still missing $200,00 per session to keep this project going for 2014-15. A donation of any size helps bring students closer to their heritage and gives them an opportunity create meaningful programs to promote a positive image of Israel .
