I will be dedicating my 5th LA Marathon in memory of my niece Daisy C. who lost her battle to Lupus at a very young age. This is a little bit of her story, Daisy Castillo born January 13, 1994 - November 21, 2015. She was 21 when she left this world. she would have turned 22 on January 13, 2016. She was diagnosed with lupus stage 4 in June 2015, unfortunately it was found too late and was way too advanced which gave her a harder battle to fight or better said she was not given a chance to fight it back. Since June she was in and out of the hospital almost every week until October 31st 2015 . On this night she was admitted to intensive care because her condition got worse. Since that day she stayed in the hospital and never made it back out. Her organs began to slowly give up on her which made it harder for her to breathe on her own and then got intubated to help her breath. Lupus had attacked all her organs. The only thing left was her brain and heart, until her brain was attacked as well by lupus. On November 19, 2015 she was declared brain dead and we were told her heart was the only one left which made her battle impossible to defeat. The doctor told us there was a decision that needed to be made in the next 2 days which was whether to keep her in life support or wait until her heart gave up on its own or disconnect her to end her pain and suffering. Well within those 2 days the decision was made for her to be unplugged on Saturday night by the family. The doctor was called, to let him know the family was ready but while he was on his way that night Daisy decided to go on her own. Her heart slowly stopped breating and she ended her pain and suffering on her own. God did give Daisy the chance to bring 2 beautiful babies to this world before he took her away, Leo which is 4 years old and Isabella 5 years old. They are now being taken care of by her husband, her Family and now being watched over by her. She was a young loving mother, daughter, cousin, aunt and wife, she was a very respectful person and had a beautiful soul. Daisy was loved by many! RIP Daisy Castillo, you are in a better place now.
