Daisy Enggina's Fundraiser:

Entrepreneurship in South Africa

Daisy Enggina

I'm a graduate marketing student at Mays Business School-Texas A&M University. In order to graduate, I need to take a summer internship. Instead of working for a big corporation during this summer and getting some big bucks, I chose to apply for a program that will help underprivileged small business owners in South Africa to strive in doing their business.

In South Africa, I will be assigned to a small team to work with two underprivileged small business owners in South Africa. The gap between the rich and the poor is so wide that there is a slim chance for small businesses to strive when faced with ‘giant’ businesses, which have more tangible and intellectual resources. This program will challenge me to think creatively, critically, and outside the box in order to deliver a tangible result that the business owners can implement right away.

I believe that this will be a life changing experience. I will have the opportunity to transfer my marketing knowledge to local people that might not have a chance in their lifetime to attend a business school. I have confidence that what I do will help to transform the South African economy for the better, one small business at a time.
