THE STORY:

The Rise Above Fest is a charity festival founded by Seether in 2012 to raise awareness of suicide prevention and mental illness. The name of the festival derives from Seether’s hit song “Rise Above This.” “I lost my brother 7 years ago to suicide and it never gets easier.” says Seether front man Shaun Morgan. “This whole festival came about as a dedication to him. I started this festival as a tribute to anyone who has lost someone. If this festival does something to help one person reconsider the tragic choice of suicide, then it will be the greatest success of my career.”

Seether kicked off the first inaugural RISE ABOVE FEST over Labor Day weekend 2012 in Gilford, NH which raised funds for suicide prevention through both ticket sales and a special Rise Above Fest auction including rare and exclusive items such as a signed Green Day guitar and an autographed Kings of Leon Box set. Since 2012, we have taken Rise Above Fest to an even greater level with a bigger lineup, more attractive outdoor venue and a multi-stage rock all day music festival that looks to feature some of the biggest names in today’s Rock. Seether is partnered with SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices Of Education), RockHouse Presents, and Waterfront Concerts to hold the festival at The Darling’s Waterfront in Bangor, Maine.

This year, the Rise Above Fest will return to Bangor on May 9th with headliners Godsmack, Seether, Slash, and Papa Roach. Past headliners include Avenged Sevenfold, Puddle of Mudd, Hellyeah, and Buckcherry to name a few. To date, Rise Above Fest has raised over $60k for suicide prevention and is on target to double that in 2015!

In the US, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death and worldwide someone dies by suicide every 39 seconds (World Health Organization). Yet, more people survive suicide attempts than actually die. In 2011, roughly 487,770 people received medical care for suicide attempts at emergency departments in the US. SAVE’s mission is to prevent suicide through public awareness and education, reduce stigma and serve as a resource to those touched by suicide. They strive to eradicate suicide and use their funding to educate nearly 14,000 people every year through various events and programs set up across the country.
