BENEFITING: GLEASONS GIVE A KID A DREAM
As a kid growing up in Pittsburgh, PA, Damon watched boxing on television with his grandfather, Andy, who was a boxer himself.
Like grandfather, like grandson, Damon took up boxing though not until later in life when he discovered a terrific gym owned by husband and wife team, Craig and Faith. Damon credits them and their gym with teaching him the fundamentals; technique, foot work, offensive and defensive tactics.
Boxing is evolutionary for Damon and he finds himself motivated most by the process leading up to his fights. His sense of drive and focus make him a slave to the training you might say. In the end he's satisfied with any match where he can apply all his training and it’s icing on the cake if he can pull out the W.
His strong sense of focus really drives him to stay mentally and physically fit throughout his preparation and training. His preparation truly is his motivation.
While boxing has kept him mentally and physically fit, Damon feels it's very important to keep the heart healthy in another way; by giving back. It's but one of the many things that make him a role model to his children. Charity has become a family thing as he and his family volunteer together to make a difference in people's lives. A bond that ties just like the boxing did for him and his grandfather.
He's committed to making a difference in everything that he does and his favorite charities include: The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society, The Light of Life Rescue Mission in Pittsburgh which provides food, shelter and support to those in need.
