BENEFITING: LAZAREX CANCER FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
First of all, if you are reading this, then thank you for clicking the link. You are already awesome!
That being said...
I am pumped to announce that I will be running the NYC Marathon this fall! Unfortunately, I was not selected automatically. Fortunately, I found an amazing charity to run with, the Lazarex Cancer Foundation. After reading what they do, I knew I found the right one.
They improve the outcome of cancer care, giving hope, dignity and life to end stage cancer patients and the medically undeserved by providing assistance with costs for FDA clinical trial participation, identification of clinical trial options, community outreach and education.
I will be running the marathon for my Uncle Jim Pfister who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June of 2015. Although a terrible and unfair disease, it has not affected or slowed Uncle Jim down. For those of you who know him, he is still the same hilarious, ridiculous guy who can talk to you for hours upon hours about anything. He has a phenomenal attitude, rarely complains and as he would say, "I'm doing quite well, for a guy with cancer."
If you're able, please donate anything you can. I truly appreciate it!!
How are the donations you collect put to use?
Each month Lazarex Patients get a check so that they can access life-saving treatment. Patients with advanced-stage cancer often cannot pursue clinical trial treatments because of the financial costs to get to the research site and the strain of being away from their family’s support. These are treatments that could potentially extend a patient’s life and lead to cures for many others. Lazarex Cancer Foundation matches cancer patients with the right medical studies anywhere in the United States and helps pay for the cost of their participation including airfare, hotel and diagnostics. No other foundation helps patients and families affected by cancer in such a direct way. You can learn more about Lazarex at www.lazarex.org.
In 2015 alone, Lazarex provided financial support to over 400 patients with advanced-stage cancer. To date, Lazarex patients have cumulatively lived an additional 507 years through their participation in clinical trials AFTER they were told that there were no other options.
To put it simply, you're giving Lazarex patients the chance to LIVE!
Cheers to Life!
