BENEFITING: HABITAT FOR HUMANITY-REBUILD MICHIGAN
EVENT: Mighty Mac Swim 2016
EVENT DATE: Sep 05, 2016
My name is Dana Kirk and I am one of the fortunate 80 individuals selected to swim in the 2016 Mighty Mac Swim on Labor Day. The Mighty Mac is a swim across the Straits of Mackinac alongside the Mackinac Bridge (approximately 5 miles)…with water temps expected to be in the 50’s or low 60’s and strong currents. Luckily it is a salt free swim! I grew up in St. Johns, MI where I started swimming at the ripe old age 6 and continued to swim competitively through high school and played club water polo for 3 years at Michigan State University. I continue to be active in and around the water competing in open water swims, playing inner tube water polo, coaching, and working as a high school swim official. I work at Michigan State University as an Associate Professor in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering. My wife Andrea and I reside in Dimondale, MI with our son Jeffrey and dog Reese. I am looking forward to many laps around Lake Interstate in 2016 to train for this epic event. Habitat for Humanity of Michigan is the beneficiary of registration fees for the Mighty Mac. This swim has been a goal of mine for a few years now and I am asking for your continued support and possible donation to help exceed my fundraising goal of $5,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Michigan. Mark your calendars… this is a swim of a lifetime!
