Stuff About Me:

Dana Louise Martin, M.A. joined PCPA in 2014 and is presently a Behavioral Health Consultant at the Lakeview location.  She is a sixth year Clinical Psychology doctoral student at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and English from the University of Colorado, Boulder where she graduated with honors in 2008.  She completed her diagnostic practicum at DeVry University’s Psychological Assessment and Counseling Services in Chicago where she was trained in administration and interpretation of psychological assessments, working mainly with adults with learning disabilities as well as mood and anxiety disorders.     She finished her therapy practicum at PrimeCare Community Health, Inc. where she worked as a behavioral health consultant in an integrative health care setting.

Dana has received training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) by Steven Hayes, the founder of ACT, through the Association of Cognitive and Behavioral Sciences (ACBS).  ACT is an empirically-based psychological intervention that utilizes mindfulness and acceptance techniques along with commitment and behavior change strategies to enhance psychological flexibility.  She has also been trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, which is an evidence-based psychotherapy treatment that utilizes bilateral stimulation of the brain to process traumatic memories/thoughts from historical events and/or current incidents that elicit distress, as well as future events that will require different responses to alleviate symptoms or anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress.  EMDR is an effective treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.  She has also practices couples therapy and has received advanced clinical training in couples therapy through The Gottman Institute.  Her therapeutic orientation is integrative relying most heavily on Person-Centered Therapy, EMDR, ACT, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
