In April 2016 the region of Kumamoto fell victim to a devastating sequence of earthquakes, fifty people died, 3000 were injured and 10,000 were evacuated and still cannot return to their homes: a nation is in mourning.

Trinity Irish Dance Company was scheduled to perform in the town’s main theatre on July 14, 2016. Unfortunately that theatre was badly damaged and the performance had to be cancelled.

Trinity Response

Company members have insisted that we visit Kumamoto as scheduled and put on a free performance. The power of art and dreams is never more needed than in the wake of tragedy and we feel privileged to be in a position to bring joy and positive energy to these stressed regions.

We also hope to visit Fukushima, a community whom the media and the world have somewhat forgotten. The Trinity Irish Dance Company has not forgotten, and we plan to spend a day engaging with the community and providing another free performance to uplift the displaced.

Through this campaign, we are asking our friends and supporters to help us reach the resilient people of these affected areas and to extend the love and support of our communities to theirs.

By sharing art via community outreach, we can make a personal impact through individual encounters. We share new experiences, watch eyes brighten and provide an all too temporary escape: we aim to bring the intangible and deliver it with love.

Your Donations

To deliver these performances for free, we need to raise at least $15,000 by July 10. Because of your generosity in this campaign, tickets will be free!

Anything over the target goal of $15,000 will be donated to the Red Cross earthquake relief fund.

To show your support, donate now and feel free to share a photo or video of your #DanceforJapan and a link to to help bring a free performance to Japanese disaster victims!

Thank you for believing in the power of art to change lives.

Donor Rewards

Behind the scenes documentary: We will be documenting the days spent in Kumamoto and Fukushima. An exclusive, behind the scenes short film by filmmaker Paul Marshall will be made available in late summer to all donors.

Chance to win a free performance: Donors of over $1000 will be entered in a raffle to win a cameo appearance (up to a 10 minute performance) by the Trinity Irish Dance Company at an event of your choice. You will be notified if you are the winner of the raffle on July 15!

Potential Rewards

Live broadcast: Depending on internet access and technical infrastructure, we hope to provide a live broadcast of the Kumamoto show for donors.

Trinity Irish Dance Company is a 501(c)3 organization – your donations are Tax Deductible.
