While serving his country overseas, Antonio received the news that no one hopes to ever hear. His beloved Grandmother Deb had been diagnosed with cancer. Being away from home during this time has been very difficult for Antonio. His wanting of being physically there for his Grandmother Deb has been overwhelming. Ms. Deb has played a tremendous role in Antonio’s life that has led him to become the man that he is today. It has been a little over a year since Ms. Deb’s diagnosis. She has started receiving chemo therapy to help with the disease. Some days are better than others but with the support of family, friends, and the Water Valley community Ms. Deb has been a true solider.
Although Antonio can’t be with Ms. Deb physically, he wanted to come up with a way to show his love and appreciation for her and also motivate her to continue fighting. A video of Antonio dancing to Michael Jackson’s “Got Me Working Day & Night” as he was getting ready for duty was posted by his Aunt on Facebook. The video instantly went viral. Of course seeing Antonio dance was pure joy for Ms. Deb and made her entire day. With the help of his friend Jasmine, #DanceForDeb was thus created. The social campaign is designed to help raise money for Ms. Deb’s medical expenses and also help raise awareness about cancer.
#DanceForDeb is something that the whole community can be a part of. It’s simple: Post a video of yourself dancing to a song of your choice and use the hashtag #DanceForDeb. With each hashtag awareness is being made and Ms. Deb will feel the love and support that she needs to help her continue battling this horrible disease.
