The Millennium Dance Complex is known worldwide as the premiere studio of the commercial dance world and is widely referred to as a 'the place where it all happens'. Although the studio's A-list clientele and faculty of the most sought after dancers and choreographers in the world has catapulted MILLENNIUM to a global brand, it still remains notably grounded, welcoming and dedicated to the highest level of service and instruction.
Walk down the narrow, photograph-covered halls and most everyone you talk to; professional dancers, absolute beginners, celebrity recording artists or choreographers, says that although it is 'exciting to be here', it also 'feels like home' and 'my roots are here'.
It is widely known that MILLENNIUM has a passion for supporting young talent as they develop. Many get their 'break' in the business from opportunities and acquaintances provided by the studio. "Being here is like rubbing Buddha's belly for good luck in the dance world," says a young dancer with a smile.
MILLENNIUM DANCE COMPLEX provides beginners through experts, the opportunity to study with top industry professionals and benefit from a pool of extensive knowledge in the dance world.
MILLENNIUM's facility in North Hollywood maintains 6 fully equipped studios, serving classes, rehearsals, casting and auditioning needs. In this way, students are inspired by sharing space with the returning professionals and the pros enjoy the sweet inspiration of the up and coming talent!
Owner/founders Robert and Ann Marie Baker are dedicated to maintaining an uplifting, supportive and motivating environment in which to experience the joyous and transformational magic that is dance.
In August of 1999 the Bakers moved the studio, formerly known as Moro Landis, a mile up the road and opened as the MILLENNIUM Dance Complex, named after the impending year 2000. Later that year they won, Best Dance Studio, at the first Hip Hop Dance Awards.
The new MILLENNIUM blossomed into a one-stop-shop for dance. Students came from all over the nation and the world where this level of dance opportunities were much less accessible. Nine years after its inception, the faculty was comprised of top choreographers. Dancers could train, attend auditions, rehearse for their dance shows and network with established industry professionals. The biggest pop stars in the world flooded in to take classes, scout talent and rehearse for upcoming tours and videos. Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and In Sync, Usher, Janet Jackson, Prince, Christina Aguilera, P.Diddy, Alicia Keyes, Beyonce, Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, the list went on and on.
Michael Jackson, who held insider auditions for his tours and videos at MILLENNIUM, also came to watch classes in disguise. Shortly after his passing, MILLENNIUM, along with Clear Channel and AEG, co-sponsored the L.A. segment of a global event to break the record for the most people dancing Thriller. People from all backgrounds came to learn the choreography and honor Michael's life; dancers and non-dancers, parents and children, it was a joyous experience. The event was a success. A record-breaking 232,000 people danced together worldwide via global simulcast.
Shifting into high gear, Robert used his well honed marketing skills to bring the studio into the forefront of the entertainment business. He developed the MILLENNIUM system of artist development: training the young dancer, exposing them to performance and teaching, choreography and mentorship opportunities as well as business guidance. He created the MILLENNIUM DANCERS from the talent pool of their Work-study Program to perform at industry events and give young choreographers a chance to get their work seen in L.A.. A youth dance company was formed.
As MILLENNIUM enters its 19th year, Ann Marie and Robert feel they have stayed true to their vision of spreading and supporting the art of dance. 'We feel honored and blessed to have been given the privilege of serving the dance community'.
