I was very lax on getting my mammograms since my doctor retired. When I finally found a new doctor and got up to date on my screenings I was shocked to learn the news that I had breast cancer. I didn't have that perverbial lump that everyone talks about rather I thought I was just having some soreness on my left side due to a poor undergarment fit. I learned that I had Stage 3C Lobular Invasive Breast Cancer that presented as a large tumor in the left breast and had infiltrated my lymph nodes up through my collar bone region.
My focus after this news was to make it to the other side of this disease for my family to survivorship. I wanted to be there for the upcoming graduations, weddings and all the other life events that would be in line for my children. I wanted to experience growing old with my husband too! With the help of some absolutely amazing doctors and their staffs, the love and prayers from family and friends I am able to say that I am now on that otherside and can't wait to see what life has in store for my family!
The journey wasn't an easy one I underwent 17 rounds of chemo, double mastectomy surgery and 35 radiation treatments. I was extremely fortunate to have a job that allowed me flexibility with my schedule that made the road a of this journey so much easier. However, while I was going through my treatment I saw firsthand women in the treatment rooms that were getting their treatment then having to go to work as a waitress, a seamstress and a production worker. They did this to keep their families going, to meet their living expenses and unfortunately didn't always take the time they needed to take for themselves - to rest and heal.
I was so blessed with my job situation, support from family & friends and my body tolerating the treatments , I only needed to take two weeks off for my surgery. I am so very thankful!
The Pink Fund helps women in active treatment for breast cancer with their living expenses. This help means that women can focus on healing vs. how they are going to pay their electric bill, car payment or housing. When I heard about The Pink Fund and the work that they do, my thoughts immediately turned to back to those women that I saw in the treatment room and felt compelled to get involved.
I was thrilled when The Pink Fund asked if I would dance in the "Dancing With the Survivors" 2017 event! It is a chance for me to raise funds for these women that are going through treatment that need help.
Won't you join me with a donation to The Pink Fund that provides real help to those that are battling breast cancer?
Thank you in advance for your generosity!
