THE STORY:

This is my story.  After being inspired by the 2012 Olympics I decided to reform my life and take exercise and eating healthier seriously.  I began running and doing other cardio. I realized I need to start putting all my energy into a good cause.  Cue the lightbulb...Running for Good.  There is an organization that is very close to my heart.  I am running for the Dandy Walker Alliance.  See story below.

Here is how it works.

1. Donate as much as you want right now.

2. Donate x amount for how many miles I run for the month.  I'll be updating this site to let you know how much I'm running. You can donate for one month or every month until my race.  Whatever you can give is all that matters.

My half marathon will be on April 21.

Gracie's Story: My niece has a very rare congenital brain disorder known as Dandy-Walker.  Dandy-Walker Syndrome is a congenital brain malformation involving the cerebellum (an area at the back of the brain that controls movement) and the fluid-filled spaces around it.

She was born premature and when she was 3 days old she had to have a shunt put inside her brain to drain the fluid that had built up.

The effect of Dandy-Walker Syndrome on intellectual development is variable, with some children having normal cognition and others never achieving normal intellectual development even when the excess fluid buildup is treated early and correctly.

1 in 2500 kids in the US will be born with Dandy Walker.  That is a .0004% that your child could be born with Dandy Walker.  The NINDS is still researching what causes this malformation of the brain at early development.  That is why I am running for this cause.  I'm running for the parents who have these wonderful kids, who love and cherish them but don't have the time to get word out about Dandy Walker, I'm running for finding out more about this disorder and being a part of something good, and I'm running to change the world.  I'm running for good.  I'm running for the Dandy Walker Alliance.

What's in a name.  Take the disorder name.  Dandy Walker + silly pun = Dandy Runner because I'm running, not walking.  Mustache?  Dandy: n. A man unduly devoted to style, neatness, and fashion in dress and appearance, predominately in the 1920's.  Hence the mustache and bowler hat.  It is a play on words.  Get it, get it.

Check out:  More information on my niece, Gracie and my Dandy Runner Facebook page: here.  (This is also where you can sign up for my monthly newsletter if you need reminders on keeping track of how much I ran for the month).  Quick link to subsribe to an e-newsletter: here.

TL;DR:  I'm running for good, I'm running for Dandy Walker Alliance.
