THE STORY:

If you've ever met my grandparent's Joey and Nati Gordon (Tatay & Nanay), you know there's never a dull moment with these two. Tatay is a goofball, master of corny jokes, Sudoku, and putting his foot in his mouth :). We're always bracing ourselves for what he's going to say next. Nanay is quiet (sometimes), selfless, and always the perfect host. They've been married for 50 YEARS as of April 12th, 2014. Over the past decade Nanay has increasingly taken on another role as a caretaker for my Tatay as health issues have arose. This is including but not limited to kidney failure, which has resulted in dialysis 3 times a week.

Earlier this year, we received the devastating news that Nanay was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is 78 and has always religiously gotten her mammograms every year, so luckily they were able to catch it at Stage 2. She had a mastectomy a couple weeks later, along with a couple other surgeries to prepare her for Chemotherapy. It all happened so fast.. and while I'm so glad everything happened quickly, it's taken quite a toll on her. I'm sure you can also imagine how frustrated she's been having to take it is easy and rest. During an early appointment my mom told me that Nanay asked the doctor, "How long is this going to take, I have to take care of my husband!"

She's halfway through chemo now, and while both of my grandparents are fortunate enough to have insurance, the bills are piling up. With a hefty copay for each chemo session, along with bills from the surgeries that were necessary leading up to chemo, a recent trip for each of them to the ER, on top of the numerous existing prescriptions for Tatay, this financial struggle has placed even more stress upon my grandparents shoulders. And this is why I've decided to try and raise some funds to help alleviate some of this financial burden for them!
