BENEFITING: Monarch School Project
EVENT DATE: Jul 22, 2012
For my birthday this year, I am completing a sprint triathlon for the Charity Challenge at the Solana Beach Triathlon on July 22. It is to raise money for one my absolute favorite charities in San Diego: The Monarch School: a school for homeless children.
The children's stories are so inspirational it made me think that if they could get themselves through high school in their beyond tough circumstances, I could get myself through a mere triathlon.
The money will be used to improve the programs at the Monarch School so that these children can get into college and achieve what they deserve after all their hard work. The program self selects in that in order for a homeless child to get themselves there, they already have to be SO smart and determined. Often they complete 5 years of school in 3, and they attend year round to do so.
As many of you know, I have been training and have completed a couple practice triathlons by now so that I know I can do it.
Instead of buying me a drink on my birthday this year, please donate whatever you can to this great cause. My personal goal given to me by the Charity Challenge is to raise $600, and the race is on July 22 (my birthday!), so please do everything you can soon. : )
