Hi everyone. My name is Dan “the hit man” Drabkin and I signed up for Haymakers for two reasons: the challenge and the cause. As for the challenge, all I can say is that training for this event often feels like hell, waking up at the break of dawn to kill yourself in the gym, sometimes getting punched in the face, before a full workday. And this becomes routine. Life starts to slow down and each day you lift your chin up and continue to push forward... and then your trainer shouts "keep your chin down." I guess it keeps things interesting.
As for the cause, it’s motivating to know that the strength and courage it takes to box pales in comparison to what those afflicted by cancer muster up every day. Haymakers is an awesome organization that drew my interest immediately. They are committed to the fight against cancer and are looking for the KO. I lost my two grandmothers, Joanna Langlais and Lenore Hirschfield, to cancer, one earlier this summer. They both waged courageous battles and never lost their character or their smile despite the hardships they went through. During those early morning training sessions this thought often keeps me moving. In their honor, I'll be donating the proceeds I raise to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, two non-profits on the cutting edge of cancer research in their respective fields.
So here we go. Thank you for your support.
And remember to claim your tax deductions.
