Ok, time for another "Did you know..." tidbit.

3/1/15

We crossed the 10% mark towards our goal and I wanted to thank all of you once again from the bottom of my heart.

Did you know that when Selena was in the second grade she did a piano recital for her entire school? Right before she went on stage I was trying to advise her on breathing deep in order to relax. She asked me why and I asked if she was nervous about playing in front of the school. She looked at me and shook her head and said "No, I'm not nervous". She was then introduced and went out and played without missing a note.

Those of you who know Selena must know that she has a lot of confidence in herself. She's never been fazed by tough situations.

Hi,

We just crossed the 7% line of our goal and I wanted to thank you once again. Also, I wanted to ask you to please consider forwarding the Selena Smile link along to your friend and work social networks. I know there are lots more folks like you out there who would like to help Selena Smile. And, we sure could use their support.

Ok, time for another "Did you know..." tidbit.

Did you know that when our little premature born Selena was delivered in Tampa General Hospital on June 7, 1980 I was the first father who was present in a delivery room at TGH? That's what the staff told me. Selena's mom's head nurse knew we were disappointed in not having a home delivery. She knew how badly I had wanted to be present. So, she guided me to tag along with some bleary eyed residents to the gowning room where I donned my gown and went to delivery. When Selena was born the Neonatologist needed to apply suction and asked for assistance. I jumped in and held Selena while she did her work. Later a few nurses would find me in NICU and ask in a whisper if it was true that I was in the delivery room. I'd just look at them and smile and they would say that the hospital was actually starting to consider allowing Fathers to attend.

Let's just say that holding Selena in my hands while she was brought to her first breath by the Neonatologist was an incredible bonding experience. I wish all Fathers could have such a moment in the birth of their child. Life changing events indeed!

Wow, thanks so much to all o…
Wow, thanks so much to all of you. We just had a milestone with over $5,000 donated from 40 donations! Your generosity is really heartwarming to our family and is so much appreciated.

As we get closer to our goal I'll let you all know what is transpiring in order to restore Selena's smile. However, in the meantime I thought I'd send you all a "Did you know..." message periodically. So here is the first one.

Did you know that Selena was born as a premature baby? Her mom and I wanted a home birth but Selena was too anxious to get into the world and came out about 2 months early. We went to Tampa General and she was born at 2.1 pounds. She was in an incubator for over a month and I was able to hold her in one palm of my hand. No body fat so she looked like a perfect little miniature person. She was a fighter then and she is a fighter now!
