Let's not bury the lead: The reality is Metastatic Breast Cancer research needs more funding, plain and simple. There is NO CURE for metastatic breast cancer.
Over the past 7 years many of you have come to know our family very well as we have opened up about the breast cancer diagnosis and experience of my sister Becky and aunt Bev. Many of you have shared your own experiences and how you and your loved ones have been impacted, thank you for adding your voices. To kick off our 7th year of fundraising I felt it important to share an update on Bev who has been living with Metastatic Breast Cancer. Her post to start 2018 says it all:
"On this last day of 2017, I find myself reflecting on my journey especially this year. It has been 2 years already since being diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and I know how quick this disease can change and progress. I also know that the average time of an MBC thriver is about 3 years after diagnosis. I find myself focusing on the fear I have when I think about the future. I look to others to help me navigate the turbulent waters that are ahead. But, as I say goodbye to 2017, it is time to appreciate the gifts I was given every day. Although I lack control of what is happening to my life, I still feel so blessed to wake up to a fresh, new day and start again. May 2018 bring you all happiness, good health and above all love. "
Each year we use the platform we have as a significant fundraising team, over $31,000 to date, to make sure our voice is heard. When you donate to Susan G Komen and team Pink-4-Red you can be certain that we ensure your voice is heard as well, that Susan G Komen understands where we want your heartfelt donations to be directed - research for a CURE for Metastatic Breast Cancer!!
