After climbing Mt. Rainier this summer and several of Colorado's 14ers, I decided that I wanted to continue to climb peaks while experiencing the different cultures of the world. My next major climb will be Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, scheduled for February of 2013.
While forming a training program to prepare me for Kilimanjaro's 19,341 foot peak I came across Edge of Seven's TREK WITH A PURPOSE program.
Edge of Seven's mission is to generate awareness and volunteer support for projects that invest in education, health, and economic opportunity for girls in developing countries. They empower girls by supporting initiatives that are locally driven, community focused, and sustainable. It is their goal to make a measurable difference in the areas that they serve through a chain of dedicated volunteers over time.
Edge of Seven's TREK WITH A PURPOSE program blends social impact with adventure into an opportunity to experience Nepal’s culture, see a few of the world’s tallest peaks, challenge trekkers, and visit several Edge of Seven projects. Beginning on October 21st, I will be travelling through the valleys of the Himalayas for two weeks and staying in tea house and home stays of local Sherpa families.
I am excited to have the opportunity to travel to a new part of the world and experience the Nepali culture while supporting a cause that will provide opportunities to girls in the same region I will be visiting.
If you would like to help me raise funds to support Edge of Seven's volunteer work I would be extremely thankful. All of the funds raised will go directly to Edge of Seven to help support their work in Nepal and other developing countries.
Thank you and I look forward to sharing my experiences with you when I get back.
