BENEFITING: Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation
Ezra Anton Greene, Tom Youngs and Woody Woodsmith are riding tandem and solo bicycles from the Black Forest to the Black Sea along the entirety of the Danube River. Their trip will be a grand total of 3000 km and they want to raise US$1 for every klick along the way! All donations will be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF), an organization dedicated to finding a cure for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The fundraiser is in honour and memory of Ezra's mother Jan Saalfeld who passed away from IPF on April 20, 2010.
IPF is a severe lung disease that affects a significant number of people. It is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes the tissues of the lungs to become scarred and stiffened. As the disease progresses, it become harder and harder for the body to transfer oxygen into the circulatory system and carbon dioxide out. The progress of the disease can occur very quickly or over several years but inevitably leads to death. There is much need for international research on the disease to better understand its currently unknown causes and to search for better methods to treat the disease. All donations will make a significant contribution to finding a cure!
If you want to read about our trip along the Danube as we travel, please visit our blog. When you're done reading, get off the computer and ride your own bicycles (or do whatever you like to do outside)! Everyone should make full use of their lungs and have the right to fresh, clean air!
