As many of you know, my niece, Leah Shefsky, was born 3-1/2 months early. Born at only 1-1/2 lbs, she pushed through an incredibly scary emergency c-section, 97 days in the NICU, 1 major surgery removing part of her intestines (with another surgery on the way), and what felt like a bazillion Bradys & D-stats. Now, 7 months later, she is over 13 lbs and doing incredibly well. Leah is a fighter in more ways than I will ever understand and I am so honored to be her aunt.
As many of you may also know, I am not a runner. I'm not an excerciser - in general. So the fact that I've committed to run 13 miles must mean something (other than the fact that I'm certifiably crazy).
In honor of my niece, I have decided to use this 1/2 marathon as an opportunity to raise money for the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes is a wonderful organization that does an incredible amount to support the health of babies born prematurely. Please help donate to this amazing organization, so babies like Leah can persevere and grow up to be healthy adults.
