This summer, I will be traveling to Daraja Academy with a group from my school, Marin Academy. Daraja is a completely free secondary boarding school for impoverished girls in Northern Kenya. All of these girls are incredibly dedicated students who come from tribes all over Kenya, and would not be able to go to school if not for Daraja. I am SO excited work with the girls and get to know them. This summer I will be living, studying, working, and facilitating classes with them. I cannot wait to experience their culture- I cannot think of anything more valuable than the opportunity to form relationships with people a world apart, who live such different lives, and come to understand how they live.
I am working hard to bring all that I can to the girls of Daraja Academy, and with your help, this summer will be a great success! I am contacting everyone for 2 reasons. The first is that I need to raise $150 to help cover the cost of my trip. Also, I am participating in the Bay To Breakers race to raise money for Daraja Academy with the group from my school going to Daraja, as well as with the Daraja girls themselves! While I am participating in Bay To Breakers, they will be running/walking at their school in a lap-a-thon to raise money for their school. I will be racing simultaneously with Alice Njonjo from Daraja. Alice comes from Nanyuki, Kenya. Her father passed away, and now her mother struggles to support their family of four in a community that lacks electricity and a reliable source of water. Alice and I will be running for Daraja Academy thousands of miles apart, but we are running together. All donations of any size are greatly appreciated, and will make a world of difference to this amazing school and its students.
