As the daughter of a teacher, I fundamentally believe education is the most powerful weapon out there and is something I believe in very strongly. In particular, The Urban Assembly School for Law Justice has continually impressed me with the sheer amount of good work they do as an organization. As a new member of the Junior Board, I am excited to participate for the first time in the Race Judicata 5K and am looking forward to having ALL of you join me. Any amount you can donate is welcome, but keep in mind that donating $25 or more also gets you entry into the 5K race (with a complimentary t-shirt). Plus, as a side benefit, I haven't actually gone for a run in about a year. Meaning, you'll get the joy of watching me struggle my way through what should be the easiest race ever. That has to be worth something, right?!?!
The Urban Assembly School for Law & Justice is a public high school that serves a population of low-income students from around Brooklyn and NYC—70% of which live near or below the poverty line, and 75% will be the first in their family to go to college. SLJ does not screen its students, meaning that it accepts incoming 9th graders irrespective of academic ability. Yet thanks to the support of committed supporters and community partners, SLJ students have a 96% graduation rate and a 100% college acceptance rate.
