To each of you that donated …
To each of you that donated to the IRONMAN Foundation in our effort to combat childhood obesity and promote healthy living for kids and supported my IM Journey.

My journey recently took a significant detour. Eight weeks before the date of Ironman Arizona I was doing my last tune-up race. During the swim portion of the race I suffered a heart attack. I proceeded to complete the bike portion and start the run. A short way into the run, I knew something was very wrong and decided to call it a day and find the medical tent. I got checked out, and everything “appeared normal.” After driving home and feeling lousy, Heidi and I went to the ER. The fantastic ER stuff quickly figured out that I had a serious MI and that immediate treatment was required. By the next morning I was recovering in the Cardiac ICU with a brand new stent.

Six weeks were filled with cardiac rehab, a reduced workload, and limited exercise to no more than 1 hr with a lot of naps. Heidi has been fantastic throughout all of this, as we hoped and prayed that I would recover and not have significant long term limitations. The anticipation of doing my first IM in 8 weeks (an IM would not be in the cards for me this year, if ever) was replaced by the anticipation of the 6 week cardiac healing window outcome. I followed the med and exercise instructions exactly and arrived at the time for my echocardiogram – ready to learn how much of my heart function was permanently compromised.

The ECG revealed that my heart function was fully restored and there were zero residual effects.

According to the cardiologist, the training I had done in preparation for the IM (124 miles of swimming, 3,096 miles of biking, and 649 miles of running) saved my life. The second benefit was the restoration to full cardiac health.

This experience puts everything into perspective. Heidi and I, in consultation with my cardiologist, still have to determine if I am going to sign-up for an IM next year. Either way, I have no regrets at all, my training and my pursuit of this cause saved my life and restored my heart. If I do decide to pursue this again and join the IRONMAN Foundation team in their efforts, I hope that you will be part of the journey with me.

I just want to thank you from the bottom of my fully functioning heart for your support! Please choose a lifestyle that prioritizes your fitness – it can save your life, trust me.

CROWDRISING SINCE: May 21, 2013
Stuff About Me:

I'm Ken Chin, aka daRevoluCHIN.

In 2006, I was perfecting being a pro couch potato and Dorito eater. In 2007, I started to run and did my first marathon. About 7 marathons later, I realized I formed an addiction. But, that addiction got boring. So, I decided that I wanted to mix it up a bit in 2011 when I signed up for a 2012 IRONMAN when I couldn't even swim. *GASP* Yeah, I know. But I got it done and boy was that a TOUGH JOURNEY!

I really thought that it was that one time bucket list item that I would not want to do again. But, I thought the same thing about running marathons. So, 2013 had me training again; AND, we all know how THAT turned out!

So, I'm seeking a little redemption this year - with my swimming skills being much more refined thanks to the Chicago Blue Dolphins - and am on schedule to be at IRONMAN Kansas 70.3 in June and IRONMAN Boulder 140.6 in August. I will once again be on the IRONMAN Foundation - Newton Running Ambassador Triathlon Team, brining awareness to the IRONMAN Foundation and how it supports the communities in which we race!

My efforts will benefit the Ironman Foundation’s Community Fund Program, supporting service projects that will be conducted in the race communities to assist local initiatives.

Through the team, I am able to make my journey to become a two-time IRONMAN one with a cause! Please help support my mission of supporting the local communities that host these IRONMAN events and know that any amount goes a LONG way and is tax-deductible!

$3,000 seems like a long way, but I know that it will be easily accomplished with your support!

The goal of The IRONMAN Foundation-Newton Running Tri Team is to "create an action that happens once in time but has existing or lasting results or an action that happens continually or progressively." The team will create a moment to impact people, that does it in a way to build a legacy.

Kokua is a Hawaiian word that translates as “extending loving, sacrificial help to others for their benefit, not for personal gain. Through our Kokua, we hope to leave the world a better place.

Through the support of the team, The IRONMAN Foundation will partner with a local charity to leave our KOKUA in the IRONMAN race Communities. Please help us leave a lasting legacy behind in our race community and contribute ANY amount. Your tax-deductible contribution will go a long way and you can do so here:

Thank you for your support in reaching my $3,000 goal and for recognizing the Kokua that our team represents!
